Ubuntu might be coming to a mobile phone near you

The developers behind the massively popular Linux Distro Ubuntu are considering making a version for the handheld Internet-enabled devices.

They are currently scheduled to discuss these plans at the Ubuntu Developer Summit, which runs through the end of this week in Seville, Spain.

Sources say that they would be helped in this initiative by the microprocessor industry giant Intel which itself is planning to develop a new low-power processor and chipset architecture for mobile devices.

Intel is also already supporting another project for the mobile devices named the Gnome Mobile & Embedded Initiative (GMAE). This project is open to anyone interested in developing mobile device applications based on Gnome-based open-source components.

Ubuntu is making news for all the right reasons. Dell recently announced their plans to launch their products which would be delivered to the customers with Ubuntu Linux preloaded. Canonical will provide Dell with support services making it easier for them to meet the user needs.
