India Inc slow to move on to Windows Vista

Microsoft might be claiming that their Windows Vista operating system might be the securest version yet, but the corporate India is slow to move from Windows XP to Windows Vista.

Most companies are delaying the move after analyzing the costs of readying their computers, servers and intranet systems for the upgrade.

Some other companies including IDBI Bank Ltd, Hero Honda Ltd and Maruti Udyog Ltd are delaying the move as they are afraid that the new operating system might not be compatible with their current applications.

The early adopters of the Vista operating system in the Indian market have largely been software services companies.

Rishi Srivastava, director, Windows client business group at Microsoft India had this to say about this worrying trend for the company: “Enterprises have to test all their applications to make sure the new version will run with the existing environment.”

Overall, most companies do not see any immediate benefit from shifting to the Vista platform and are unlikely to make the move in the near future.
