Vista continues to face battery life issues for notebook users

Microsoft Vista loaded notebook computer owners are not really happy at the amount of power consumed by the software’s Aero interface.

The problem is so big that most PC manufacturers including Hewlett Packard have to take their own steps to improve the backup provided by the system.

Vista interestingly promised better battery life for their users as it comes loaded with improved power-management capabilities.

Experts believe that the problem lies with the Aero interface which consumes a lot of processing power resulting in a drop in battery life of the product.

Sources claim that if the Aero interface is turned off, the battery life provided by notebooks is equal to or better than Windows XP systems.

John Wozniak, a distinguished technologist in HP’s notebook engineering department said that they had to come up with its own set of power-management settings for Vista laptops. He added: “They’ve really made it complex from a power-management standpoint. The potential is there to do some good things, the bad thing is that it comes with the canned settings… and we didn’t like any of them.”

Bahr Mahony, director of product marketing for AMD’s mobile product division had this to say: “Vista is consuming more power than Windows XP, but we have been very focused on introducing more power-efficient technologies.”

Microsoft is now likely to work on improving the battery life by releasing patches and fixes through service packs.
