Yahoo tells Yahoo Photos users to move to Flickr
Internet giants Yahoo has announced that they are going to close their Yahoo Photos service to concentrate on Flickr which they acquired some years back.
The company is now asking the users of Yahoo Photos to move their hosted images to Flickr. The company said that the users of Yahoo Photos will be notified of various options including upgrading to Yahoo’s Flickr service or various outside-photo storage sites.
Interestingly, the company would be letting the users to migrate their images to competing sites including Photobucket, Kodak Gallery, Shutterfly Inc. or Snapfish.
Flickr would be the most recommended option of course. Jeff Weiner, executive vice president of Yahoo’s Network Division added on this decision: “We are making great strides in our ongoing efforts to align Yahoo!’s resources and focus on core strategic priorities. Part of this progress is today’s decision to close Yahoo! Photos to better serve our valued customers through Flickr.”
As per market analysts Photobucket is at the moment the most popular image sharing service. Yahoo Photos and Flickr are smaller players in the market.
