Microsoft Silverlight to get .Net framework support
Microsoft has said that they are going to integrate the .Net framework into their recently unveiled web technology Silverlight which is going to provide developers an exciting alternative to Adobe’s Flash technology.
Microsoft said that this integration is part of their effort to build a significant developer base. This would help them to gain a large number of customers for the technology by providing a revenue-generating business.
Microsoft CTO Ray Ozzie said in a statement that the company is shipping a cross-platform version of the .Net framework for the browser in Silverlight. The company released a preview edition of the technology yesterday.
The software giant is encouraging web developers to develop services and sites powered by Silverlight technology by using their Microsoft Expression toolset and Microsoft Visual Studio IDE.
They have also started shipping its Microsoft Expression Studio toolset. The company has also made available preview version of the 2.0 version of Expression Blend.
Ozzie added in his statement: “Even SaaS providers have found the need to expand offerings to include an offline edition. SaaS 1 meant the Web; SaaS 2 has come to embrace the unique value of the client.”
