Microsoft Silverlight test version released online

Software giant Microsoft has released a test version of their recently unveiled Silverlight technology which takes on Adobe’s Flash technology for interactivity on the web.

Microsoft released the test version of the product at the MIX 07 conference for Web developers and designers. Microsoft added that they would also add streaming video functionality to Silverlight. This is a pretty important feature which enables sites like YouTube and MySpace to enable video sharing using Adobe’s Flash technology.

Ray Ozzie, Microsoft’s chief software architect added in his statement that they would open up its database infrastructure to Web developers who want to store their video on Microsoft’s servers and storage systems.

Microsoft plans to make available 4 gigabytes of web space for hosting videos for web developers. The company added that they will begin on Monday shipping Microsoft Expression Studio. This suite from the company has been designed to somewhat take on Adobe’s Creative Suite.

Microsoft also plans to make available Silverlight in its first final version sometime this summer.
