Microsoft could open source parts of Silverlight technology
Market sources say that the software giant Microsoft could open source some portions of their under development Silverlight technology.
They could make an announcement at MIX 07 next week. There are also reports that the company is also expected to release a beta of Silverlight which would take on Adobe’s Flash technology for web based interactive media.
Microsoft’s Silverlight technology is based on the Microsoft Vista’s new graphics framework Windows Presentation Foundation.
Microsoft could also release the final version of their Expression toolset for building RIAs. Though, as per their original schedule they are still supposed to work on it for two more months. They had earlier said that the Expression would ship by June this year.
Their Expression technology is being developed as a direct competitor to recently released Adobe’s Creative Suite 3.
People who have tested these new tools from the company seems to be very impressed though they are not sure whether the company can lure away users of competing products from Adobe.
