MySQL 6.0 to come loaded with Falcon storage engine
MySQL CEO Marten Mickos has announced that their upcoming major release of MySQL’s open source database, MySQL 6.0 would come loaded with their homegrown Falcon storage engine.
The company also showcased the latest alpha version of Falcon. They had released the first alpha release earlier this year in January.
MySQL had to develop Falcon after rival database company Oracle acquired Innobase 2 years back. MySQL comes bundled with the Innobase’s InnoDB storage engine. Now, Falcon would be added to this bundle.
MySQL in response also opened its database storage API to third parties to let them develop their own storage engines.
Mickos also added that he plans to someday take the company public but he could not reveal a probable timeline for an IPO.
