Google launched Web History feature

Google continues to launch more services related to web surfing activities of the user. However, this could probably become a nightmare for those people who worry a bit too much about their activities online.

This new service is named Google Web History and it is connected to their Google Toolbar application. Luckily, they give the user enough powers to turn it off for good.

The company says that this feature would enable a Google account holder to store their online surfing history on the Google servers. This database is of course searchable by the user and is designed to help him find out stuff they have checked online.

Google’s Payam Shodjai, product manager for Personalization added more on this new feature addition: “Imagine being able to search over the full text of pages you’ve visited online and finding that one particular quote you remember reading somewhere months ago. Imagine always knowing exactly where you saw something online, like that priceless YouTube video of your friend attempting to perform dance moves from a bygone age. Better yet, imagine having this wealth of information work for you to make searching for new information easier and faster.”

This new feature edition now replaces the existing Google Search History feature and is connected to their Toolbar application. User is required to turn on the PageRank feature on the toolbar to make use of this added functionality.

The data stored from the browsing history includes sites visited to downloads to search results along with the time and data details. Impressively, user can also track the Google AdSense ads they have clicked on in the past.

Google is already under a lot of pressure from privacy groups around the world. They have specifically stated that this new feature would be used by the company to enhance the search experience of the user. And they promise that the data collected will not be made available to third parties except in aggregate form or to comply with legal processes.
