eBay has not acquired StumbleUpon

StumbleUpon and eBay both have publicly denied that they have signed any acquisition deals. There were rumors in the market that eBay had acquired the collaborative search service StumbleUpon.

Google was another company which was rumored to be involved in the talks to acquire StumbleUpon. In fact, Google has just added a new feature to their search toolbar Dice which functions somewhat similar to the StumbleUpon service.

Rachel Petersen of StumbleUpon said in a statement: “We cannot comment on merger speculation. But at this point it remains a private company. It’s just a rumor.”

Hani Durzy, director of corporate communications at eBay added: “We have made no such announcement of any kind, and beyond that, we do not comment on rumors or speculation.”

It is not exactly clear though whether the two companies are currently discussing a deal.
