OpenOffice to get access to Pentaho business intelligence technology
Open-source business intelligence software vendor Pentaho has said that they are collaborating with the developers of the OpenOffice.org office productivity suite.
They would work together to offer the users of OpenOffice suite access to its BI offerings. Pentaho added that their reporting engine, Pentaho Reporting, will be integrated with the next release of OpenOffice.org, version 2.3.
OpenOffice’s next major release is scheduled for release sometime later this year. Pentaho added that they have been discussing these plans with Sun since around a year.
Lance Walter, vice president of marketing at Pentaho said that this would be the first time that Pentaho’s reporting engine has been included in a desktop productivity suite. He added: “It will certainly accelerate the number of places where Pentaho will be used.”
Pentaho is hoping that some of the users of this integrated feature in OpenOffice would get them paying clients to their advanced software products.
