Microsoft to pay $180 million to Iowa
Software giant Microsoft has revealed that they are settling the lawsuit filed against them by the state of Iowa. The company has now agreed to pay Iowans up to $180 million to settle the lawsuit related to antitrust activities.
The state authorities had accused the company of following monopolistic practices which had cost the state’s citizens millions of dollars extra for software products.
The deal signed announced by Microsoft means that customers who bought certain Microsoft products between 1994 and 2006 will be eligible for cash benefits.
Companies would be able to get the benefits in the form of computer equipment and software. Microsoft said that the amount that can be claimed will depend on which product and how many copies were purchased during the 12 year period.
Microsoft further said that no proof would be required for online claims of up to $100 or for mail claims of up to $200.
