Symantec launches Online Backup Service SaaS model
Security application maker Symantec has entered the software-as-a-service market with the launch of their Online Backup Service.
This new service is targeted at small and medium-sized businesses and provides outsourced data storage and disaster recovery services.
This new service is going to become a part of their upcoming Symantec Protection Network which would offer other tools and services in the future.
The company said that customers would be able to offload their maintenance and care of the security applications by using this new service. They would be hosting the systems online and provide the backup facilities for data security.
Jeff Hausman, senior director of product management for Symantec’s Security Response and Managed Security Services business units added: “The SMB market is the right place for us to start because there are a lot of companies who haven’t been able to afford some of these applications before. But we believe that someday enterprises will consume many security applications in this manner too.”
