Nokia S60 now has widget support

Nokia has announced that they are now adding widgets support to their S60 platform. The company claims that their S60 will be the first mobile software platform that enables the creation of widgets using familiar standards-based Web technologies.

The technology is being provided to all S60 licensees and the aim is to enhance the mobile browsing experience for the users by bringing a personal Web experience to a personal device.

Widgets are mini applications which allow the users to get personalized information from various web sources through tiny applications running on the interface.

Nokia added that their S60 on Symbian OS would be supported by Web Run-Time. Web Run-Time is essentially a web application development environment which allows the developers to design widgets for the mobile platform based on familiar standards-based Web technologies.

The company further said that the Web Run-Time and widget support will be available to S60 licensees as part of the S60 3rd Edition Feature Pack 2.
