Microsoft Windows Server virtualization delayed

Software giant Microsoft has announced that they are now delaying the release of their beta of virtualization technology for Windows Server and a service pack to its existing virtualization software.

The company said that their upcoming public beta of Windows Server virtualization would now ship in the second half of 2007. This product has been codenamed Viridian.

Microsoft has also delayed the release of their final version of Virtual Server 2005 R2 Service Pack 1. It would be offered in the second quarter of the year.

The company added that the customers and partners would be able to download a release candidate of the service pack later this month.

Microsoft had some good news though. They said that the next version of Windows Server, code-named Longhorn, is on track for a beta 3 before midyear. They aim to release it to manufacturing in the second half of the year as scheduled.
