AIM Lite or LAIM: Use AOL IM the KISS way!

AOL Instant messenger (AIM) is one of the most used instant messengers in the world. However, it is also one of the most disliked due to its crappy interface. AOL has worked a lot to improve the user experience with the recent releases but it still does not interest us at TechWhack.

So, we ended up testing the other AIM edition AOL is working on. The lighter version is named AIM Lite or in simple words LAIM.

The company officially says about this light version:

AIM Lite is a reference application for testing some new client technology developed here at AOL®, with the goal of being a simple, fun, light IM client.

The LAIM edition is pretty cool. It’s lightweight and lacks the overload of feature which might make using the regular version a pain.

It does not feature any advertising but allow useful features like File Transfer. Few other options exist like making the chat window ‘always on top’. It also support themes and plugins to add that extra zing to your chats.

You can change the status to anything you want and adding a new member is pretty simple as well.

Overall, it is a good alternative to check out if you have friends on the AOL IM network.
