Mozilla developing The Coop for socially active web users
Mozilla’s research group is currently developing a set of content-sharing tools named The Coop to help web users with social networking services.
These new tools would help the web users swap links and more efficiently track personal content such as blog posts, movies, and photos.
Mozilla developers wrote about these new tools: “Just a few years ago, one of the most popular uses of the Internet was to send jokes, cute pictures, and news stories to friends and family (social networks) via e-mail. Fast forward to today, and you’ll find that not a lot has changed except the medium.”
The developers added that very little social networking tools are available directly from the web surfing applications like the web browser. This means that the web users have to rely on email and instant messengers to share online stuff with friends and relatives.
Interestingly, we already have a web browser named Flock which is based on the Firefox engine which integrates some of the most popular social networking services like Flickr and others. Looks like Mozilla’s The Coop would let something similar to work on their Firefox browser directly.
