Yahoo! now offering APIs for Yahoo! Mail
Internet giants Yahoo! has announced that they are now going to provide APIs for their hugely popular webmail service Yahoo! Mail.
This would enable third party developers to provide tools for the world’s most popular online email service. Chad Dickerson, head of the Yahoo Developer Network confirmed this move just a day after they announced their plans to offer unlimited storage space on the Yahoo Mail starting May this year.
Yahoo has been providing APIs for their other popular services including Flickr photo hosting site, Yahoo Search Engine and Yahoo Shopping portal. These tools are made available on the Yahoo Developer Network Web site.
The company believes that the popularity of Yahoo Mail service would entice a lot of developers to write tools for the service. John Kremer, Yahoo Mail’s vice president added: “By opening up our APIs, we’ll begin to tap into the world’s ideas about mail.”
Yahoo is also offering a commission of $10 for every Yahoo Mail Plus account created as a result of a referral from an approved developer.
