Dell promises to launch more Linux powered computers

World’s second largest personal computer maker Dell has confirmed that they would start offering Linux pre-installed on its PCs and notebooks.

This announcement was heavily influenced by the growing demand from their customers on a recently launched customer feedback website.

Dell said that they have heard what the consumer wants and they would go ahead and deliver it. The company posted on their IdeaStorm blog: “We will expand our Linux support beyond our existing servers and Precision workstation line. Our first step in this effort is offering Linux pre-installed on select desktop and notebook systems.”

The company added that they would soon release more information on their plans to launch Linux powered computers.

Dell found out that the consumer was more interested in getting driver compatibility and Linux kernel support than they are about which distribution Dell would choose for its PCs and notebooks. This should make it easier for them to choose a particular Linux Distro and launch products based on it.
