Internet Explorer: Milw0rm code now available on the web
Sources have confirmed that a new software application has been released on the web which can take advantage of a known vulnerability in the Microsoft’s internet explorer web browser.
The code was first released on the Milw0rm.com Web site and it takes advantage of a recently fixed flaw in Microsoft’s browser.
Experts claim that this could be used to run unauthorized software on a computer which does not have all the latest patches.
This security glitch was first discovered by security researcher HD Moore. Microsoft fixed this flaw in February. Security vendor Websense spoke on this release: “This type of vulnerability has been very popular with malicious attacks in the past, and we expect to see its usage increase substantially, now that exploit code is publicly available.”
eEye Digital Security confirmed that this application can be used with unpatched Internet Explorer 6 browser edition though the latest release (IE7) is safe. The company said: “We’ve tested it against IE7 and haven’t got it to work yet.”
