Red Hat releases Fedora Core 3

Red Hat continues with their open-source initiative with the release of their latest operating system for Linux users, Fedora Core 3. What so important about this release is that it supports five Indian languages. Therefore, users can use this operating system in Hindi, Bengali, Gujarati, Punjabi, and Tamil.

Its development is sponsored by Red Hat in general and is developed in collaboration with the open source community. Red Hat India Director Javed Tapia had this to say about the Indian scenario: “India’s domestic software industry resembles the TV industry of around six years ago, when the programming was only in Hindi or English. Similarly, today’s computers are predominantly used only in English.”

The localized versions of this operating system can help getting computers to the regional level in the country where people have little or no knowledge of English language. Even governments with interest in promoting regional languages for official work might find this exciting enough to endorse it officially. Linux has huge potential in a developing economy like ours and government can save a lot of money by moving to Linux instead of Microsoft based applications.

Fedora Core 3 comes with a fully functional desktop with regular usage applications like office suite with a word processor, spreadsheet, and presentation tool. And of course, web applications like a browser and mail client.
