Windows Vista has a bug in Windows Mail
Microsoft has acknowledged that they are currently studying a bug reported in the built in Windows Mail supplied with their recently launched Windows Vista operating system.
This bug can be used by hackers to run malicious code on a victimized PC as per the researchers would found this vulnerability.
Symantec’s DeepSight network had recently issued a warning to their customers regarding this bug. They have also upped the threat rating from 6.8 to 7.5 after confirming that the bug was remote code exploitable.
DeepSight stated in their alert: “An attacker can deliver an e-mail message containing a malicious link that references a local executable. If the victim clicks on this link, the native program is executed with no further action required. For instance: An attacker could achieve the execution of the local file ‘winrm.cmd.’”
Microsoft’s Security Response Center (MSRC) team however had this to say: “Microsoft is not aware of any attacks attempting to use the reported vulnerability or of customer impact at this time.”
