Microsoft admits OneCare is not perfect yet
Microsoft has somewhat accepted that their recently launched security application suite named OneCare is not that good at the moment.
However, they plan to continue to improve it. Looks like Microsoft is adopting the same approach they adopted with their other software products which usually are mediocre in the first version but gets better with newer updates.
Jimmy Kuo, a member of the Microsoft security research and response team admitted in a blog post: “The recent detection numbers were not stellar. We missed capturing a VB100 [Virus Bulletin 100] in the last test because we missed one virus. As a result, we have adopted new methodologies to … look more closely at families of viruses that have been found to be ‘in the wild,’ [those] found actively spreading among users.”
He added: “We will keep on working to acquire the VB100 Award each time we are tested by Virus Bulletin.”
A lot of antivirus tests in the recent weeks have claimed that OneCare manage to perform poorly when compared to existing products in the market. Rival Symantec was quoted in the media criticizing Microsoft for selling security products for the Windows Operating System which they themselves develop.
