Microsoft claims Vista activation delay trick does not work
Software giant Microsoft has said in a statement that a trick released online to delay the Vista’s activation for as long as a year does not work. However, the researcher who found the trick claims that it does.
Alex Kochis, senior product manager of Windows Genuine Advantage (WGA) had this to say about this widely talked about hack: “A quick analysis determined that this purported workaround doesn’t work.”
Brian Livingston, the editor of the Windows Secrets newsletter claimed in his report that a single change to Vista’s registry would delay the requirement to validate a Vista installation by an additional eight months.
Kochis added: “Rearm is used to reset the activation grace period timer to 30 days as one of the final steps the builder of the image will perform. Doing this enables the builder of the image to ensure the customer has the full 30-day period in which to activate.”
