Adobe releases public alpha version of Apollo
Software Company Adobe has released the public alpha version of their upcoming Apollo platform. The company claims that this platform would make it easier for developers to build Web applications for offline or online use.
This platform has been designed to develop applications which are platform independent. It uses technologies including HTML, JavaScript, Flash, and Adobe Flex.
This alpha version release is currently compatible with Windows and Macintosh. The applications developed using Apollo could be launched from desktop with no requirement of a web browser or internet connection.
The application would automatically connect to the web when the connectivity is available to download the latest information. Users would only require the Apollo runtime to run the apps. This is similar to how flash applications work.
Max Mancini, eBay’s senior director of disruptive innovation has already confirmed that they are going to use Apollo to develop “a fun, immersive experience outside of the browser”.
