SourceT: Secure64’s application turn Itanium 2 server into a secure DNS appliance
Secure64 Software has released a new software application which they claim can turn an Itanium 2 server into a secure DNS (domain name service) appliance. This appliance would then be able to handle 100,000 queries per second.
The company has essentially developed its own minimalist OS, SourceT and they are exploiting some of the hardware security features of Intel’s 64-bit Itanium 2 processor to provide this functionality.
Secure64 said that they would authenticate their own code whenever the server is booted up. This should prevent the server from being tempered by rootkits and similar malware.
The company added that by stripping the operating system of other functionalities, it would make the end product more secure and it would eat up fewer resources as well.
They are selling this new DNS appliance software for $9,995, excluding the cost of the hardware required to run it. They are currently supporting just the Hewlett-Packard’s Integrity rx2660 server.
