Kaspersky: Vista has security issues related to UAC irritation factor

Security Company Kaspersky is developer of the popular security application products. The company has now claimed in a statement that the recently launched Windows Vista operating system could be turned into a less secure version compared to XP by just turning off its User Account Control (UAC) feature.

Kaspersky said that this feature can get so annoying in regular usage that most users would prefer to turn it off for good. And this would result in a more vulnerable operating environment.

Natalya Kaspersky, the company’s chief executive added: “There’s a question mark if Vista security has improved, or has really dropped down.”

The company powers one of the engines being used in ForeFront, Microsoft’s business security product. Microsoft’s representative Arno Edelmann responded to these claims: “We have a thriving community of partners, and Kaspersky is one of our best partners. I find their statements a little strange because they have one of the best insights into Microsoft security products.”

Kaspersky further had this to say about Vista’s PatchGuard technology: “PatchGuard doesn’t allow legitimate security vendors to do what we used to do.”

This is very true. I beta tested it for over a year in many networking enviroments and because people tend to shut down UAC it is less secure then other windows versions, and *much* less secure then Linux. I still get paid to secure windows, but I no longer use it myself. I like my data to stay just that, MY data.
