Red Hat releases Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5
Linux Company Red Hat has announced the launch of their new version of its Linux operating system. The company has released the Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 (RHEL 5).
The company said that this new OS is more of a platform and comes loaded with the RHEL 5 Advanced Platform for servers and an updated Enterprise Desktop.
Red Hat also announced the launch of three separate prepackaged solutions which are: Red Hat Datacenter Solution, Red Hat Database Availability Solution and the Red Hat High Performance Computing Solution.
Paul Cormier, Red Hat executive vice president of engineering said that these Advanced Platforms allow customers “to greatly reduce the cost and complexity of purchasing, integrating, and managing separate virtualization, storage management and high availability software.”
Market analyst Laura DiDio spoke about these new releases: “It’s clear that Red Hat is moving aggressively to compete with Windows Server 2003 Data Center, Solaris, and HP Unix. Not just in servers, but also applications, and at the high end.”
