Firefox challenging Internet Explorer in medium-sized business market in US

Firefox might be unable to provide an alternative to Microsoft’s Internet Explorer in large corporations but they are definitely providing a reliable alternative to medium-sized business (SMB) users in the United States.

A market survey of 140,000 such businesses has shown that Mozilla Firefox browser is now almost on equal footing with Microsoft’s Internet Explorer.

Even more interesting is the fact that the gap between these two browser products is narrowing fast. Research firm FreshBooks said in a report that Firefox’s browser market share grew by 1.35% in February 2007 to an astonishing 38.95%. The share of IE in its survey fell down by 0.73% to 56.95%.

The report also showed that Firefox users were more likely to upgrade to a newer and updated version compared to internet explorer. More people are using the Firefox 2 edition compared to Firefox 1 series of versions. Internet Explorer 6 continues to dominate the users of Internet Explorer 7.
