Novell releases Office Open XML (OOXML) translator for OpenOffice.org

Linux Company Novell has released their Office Open XML (OOXML) translator for OpenOffice.org. This would enable OpenOffice users to write and open files saved in XML formats from MS Office.

The tools developed by the company are compatible with Linux, Windows versions of the OpenOffice.org software suite.

Office Open XML is the file format used by the latest versions of the MS Office productivity suite which were launched in the retail market by Microsoft in January this year.

OpenOffice and other applications based on this product use Open Document Format (ODF) which is supported by several standards bodies.

Brian Jones, a program manager in Microsoft’s Office group spoke about this product availability: “I think at this point we can really move on to more productive and collaborative discussion and admit that we are no longer in any sort of ‘file format war.’ If we ever were really in a war, it’s now over, and both sides are winners.”
