Adobe to release an online edition of Photoshop
Software Company Adobe has said that they are planning to release a hosted version of its popular Photoshop application.
This release could be similar to how Google Docs and Spreadsheets operate using only a web browser and an internet connection.
Adobe aims to release the public version within the next six months. They aim to support this service using online advertising.
The company said that they laid the foundation for a hosted Photoshop product with Adobe Remix, a Web-based video-editing tool. Adobe is offering this service in partnership with PhotoBucket media-sharing site.
Adobe CEO Bruce Chizen said in a statement on this development: “That is new (for Adobe). It’s something we are sensitive to because we are watching folks like Google do it in different categories, and we want to make sure that we are there before they are, in areas of our franchises.”
He added: “We recognize there is a customer there–we recognize they are not going to pay us, necessarily, directly. But we could use ad revenue as a model. Google has demonstrated that it works pretty well for certain types of applications.”
