Dell clarifies stand on Linux loaded computers
Dell recently launched an IdeaStorm web service asking web users and customers to submit their suggestions. One of the top demands made on this service was that the company starts offering Linux loaded machines.
There were reports in the media that Dell has indeed decided to launch Linux-equipped Dell laptop and desktop computers.
Dell has now clarified its stand on this issue. The company said that they are listening to thousands of users who had suggested them to start offering Linux loaded machines in the market.
However, the first step they are taking is by certifying three of its corporate hardware lines — OptiPlex desktops, Latitude notebooks, and Dell Precision workstations — for use with Novell SUSE Linux.
Jeremy Bolen, a Dell spokesman added: “Our point of view is that we are listening to our Linux customers.” He further said that Dell already is offering factory-installed Linux on some specific Dell Precision workstations for high-end corporate users.
