Undelete Plus: Recover Deleted Files Easily and Free!

When you delete a file on your Windows system, its contents are not really wiped off the hard drive right away, even after you empty the Recycle Bin. This quirk is a double-edged sword because, it lets someone unerase information you intended to delete and by the same token, it lets you bring back information you accidentally deleted. Windows doesn’t come with any shredding or file recovery tools of its own.

Undelete Plus is a freeware utility that lets you do both these things.

You fire it up and ask it to scan one or more drives for deleted files. After performing a scan it gives you a list of the deleted files found and shows you whether they are recoverable or not. You can apply a name, date or size filter to these results so it shows you only files you’re interested in. Once you select one or more of these files you can either securely erase (wipe) them or undelete them to bring them back.

Though data recovery is an iffy process at the best of times and there are no guarantees, a file recovery tool can sometimes come in real handy and should be in place for that rainy day.
