Dell to start offering certified, Linux-loaded desktop and laptop PCs
PC manufacturing giant Dell seems to have accepted the fact that their customers want them to sell Linux loaded machines.
The company has announced their plans to unveil a new line of certified, Linux-loaded desktop and laptop PCs.
Dell recently launched an online initiative named IdeaStorm where they invited their users to post new suggestions. Other users were allowed to bump the suggestions to enable the company to see which ones were more popular amongst the others.
The company said in a statement on this new development: “It’s exciting to see the IdeaStorm community’s interest in open-source solutions like Linux and OpenOffice. Your feedback has been all about flexibility and we have seen a consistent request to provide platforms that allow people to install their operating system of choice.”
The company has decided that they would work with Novell and would be using their version of Linux to certify its corporate client products. Linux is now likely to be bundled on their OptiPlex desktops, Latitude notebooks, and Dell Precision workstations.
