IBM applications still not officially Oracle’s Linux compatible

US based tech giant IBM has said in a statement that they cannot yet guarantee that all their Linux based applications are compatible with Oracle Corp.’s recently launched version of the Linux operating system.

This is somewhat bad news for Oracle as any problems faced by their customers related to IBM software; Oracle would have to resolve the issue not IBM.

This was confirmed in a statement by company representative Matthew McMahon.

Oracle originally launched their own Linux version in October last year. They claim that their version is identical to the one released by Red Hat.

Oracle further claims that the OS would run perfectly with applications made for the Red Hat version of Linux. However, analysts say that most companies would outside assurances to back up that claim before they will switch to Oracle delivered Linux OS.

Trip Chowdhry, an analyst with Global Equities Research said in a statement: “What Red Hat is selling to the customer is peace of mind. Oracle cannot do that because it is unable to certify comparability.”

McMahon however added: “We are going to wait and see if there is traction in the marketplace. If clients want it (Oracle), then we will support it.”
