Google to blur sensitive locations in India on Google Earth
Search engine giant Google has reportedly agreed to comply with requests from the Indian government to blur sensitive images of India’s military bases and government buildings on their Google Earth and Google Maps application.
The Indian government had earlier asked the US based Google Inc. to blur sensitive images of its military bases and buildings that can be seen with its mapping application.
The company has now agreed to show fuzzy, low-resolution pictures of certain building installations on their applications.
However experts have said that since the data is available for sale from various sources, blurring the images on Google Maps/Earth is just going to give the Indian government a sense of false protection.
The fact is that if a private company can get this data, the military organizations around the world would have better access to even more critical data related to satellite imagery.
