Adobe working on getting PDF format recognized by International Organization for Standardization
Software company Adobe has said that they are now taking the first step in getting their entire Portable Document Format (PDF) specification recognized as a global standard by the ISO (International Organization for Standardization).
The company is going to submit the full PDF 1.7 specification to enterprise content management nonprofit organization the Association for Information and Image Management (AIIM).
They are hoping that the AIIM would then forward the specification to ISO to get it accepted as an international standard.
Sarah Rosenbaum, director of product management with Adobe spoke about this decision: “It was becoming a bit of an alphabet soup dependent on industries or uses of the specification,” she said.
Adobe’s PDF/Archive (PDF)/A) and PDF/Exchange (PDF/X) are already approved ISO standards. PDF for Engineering (PDF/E) and PDF for Universal Access (PDF/UA) are under consideration and might become standards in the coming months.
