Palm gets push mail technology from Microsoft

Palm has finally announced that they would start delivering push mail service to their customers using Microsoft technology.

However it is not exactly as powerful as the services provided by Research in Motion’s Blackberry service. Palm’s service would lack management component.

Palm said that their The Treo 680 and Treo 700p Smartphones will update Palm’s VersaMail to include Microsoft Direct Push technology.

This service would help provide instant access to email. It is also likely to conserve battery for the Palm smartphone users.

Ken Dulaney, senior mobile analyst at Gartner spoke about this technology: “Once e-mail uses a more or less a delivery-activated system as opposed to a periodic check, RIM will no longer have a major advantage.”

Palm added that the Direct Push technology would be made available as a free download for VersaMail on Monday.
