QuickTime for Windows OS still vulnerable
Earlier this week, Apple Inc. released a patch for the QuickTime application for the Mac OS X platform. However, the company is yet to ship a fix for the QuickTime application for the Windows OS platform.
Secunia has confirmed that the latest version of QuickTime available on the Apple website is still affected by the security flaw.
Thomas Kristensen, chief technical officer at Secunia said in a statement: “Rather than supplying the correct fixed version for download, Apple still provides the old vulnerable version. To get the actual security upgrade, users have to go through a rigorous update process, which is entirely different from the download process. To make matters worse, the update process isn’t documented anywhere, so users may not even know where to begin!”
Secunia added that they have got reports from the users of their Secunia Software Inspector that they still were using an affected version of the Apple QuickTime application.
