AOL and Intellext launch AOL@SCHOOL Desktop Sidebar for kids

Internet Company AOL is collaborating with Intellext, a maker of contextual search software to launch the AOL@SCHOOL Desktop Sidebar.

This application combines the AOL@SCHOOL search engine with Intellext’s Watson contextual search technology to provide a search index comprising more than 48,000 screened educational sites for kids.

The application works in the background and monitors the text of open documents to generate topically and conceptually related keywords. It then generates the search results related to these keywords automatically.

Al Wasserberger, CEO of Intellext said that this service would enable teachers and kids to get access to information without relying on manual searching techniques and would prevent them from landing on inappropriate content on the web.

Mark Stevens, AOL’s education director and general manager added: “What we say is every single site and all of the data in there has been reviewed by educators.”
