Microsoft and Novell to help Wal-Mart deploy Linux
Retailing industry giant Wal-Mart has said that they are taking the services of Microsoft and Novell to provide open source Linux software for use in their business and website operations.
The financial terms of this deal were not revealed to the media. The two companies would now provide Novell’s SUSE Linux Enterprise Server subscription certificates to Wal-Mart for data center use.
Wal-Mart said that they want to use the Linux as a platform which can be connected to a number of various technology systems.
The company said in a statement: “We have wanted information technology vendors to deliver true interoperability and IP assurance between multiple platforms for some time now, and we are pleased that Microsoft and Novell are committed to fulfilling that need.”
Wal-Mart believes that shifting to the Linux platform would help them reduce costs in the longer term.
Ever since Microsoft and Novell announced their decision to work together, they have sold more than 35,000 certificates for SUSE Linux Enterprise Server.
