Parallels is owned by SWSoft

Virtualization software developers Parallels have confirmed that they are indeed owned by SWSoft. The company had to issue this statement after a report claiming this fact was published in Fortune magazine.

The company is popularly known for their Parallels Desktop for Mac. People had assumed that the company was special because it was so popular despite being just a regular startup.

However, this revelation by the company somewhat diminishes that niche value about the company.

Benjamin Rudolph, a Parallels spokesman confirmed in a statement that they were acquired by SWSoft three years ago.

Interestingly, SWSoft itself focuses on server-side virtualization technologies. Parallels further said that they had opted in that deal with SWSoft to operate as an independent company and they would continue to function like that in the future.

Serguei Beloussov, CEO of SWsoft, and Nick Dobrovolskiy, CEO of Parallels said in a joint statement: “About virtualization specifically, management of both companies has always believed that these different types of virtualization each has its own advantages. And both types can work side-by-side for maximum benefit.”
