Sun Microsystems offering cheaper support for Solaris 10 operating system

Sun Microsystems is turning into another potential challenger for the leading Linux distributor in the market Red Hat.

The company has announced that they would be offering competitively priced support in an update of its Solaris 10 operating system.

Sun claims that this support would be offered at half the price of a comparable support plan from Linux distributor Red Hat.

Red Hat interestingly is already facing massive challenge from Oracle which recently announced cheaper support for Red Hat customers.

In addition, with Novell working with Microsoft on interoperability between Linux and Windows, Red Hat has more competition in the Linux market.

Sun’s new plans costs about 40 percent less and the premium plan about 50 percent less than comparable Red Hat plans.
