Symbian introduces support for Posix code libraries

Symbian is one of the many developers of operating system and software solutions for the mobile platform. The company faces massive challenge from rivals including Microsoft which also provide their Windows Mobile Platform for cellphone devices.

The company is now making it easier for developers to offer interesting desktop applications on mobile phones powered using the Symbian operating system.

They have now introduced support for Posix (Portable Operating System Interface) code libraries on their mobile operating system platform.

This would help the developers to easily port existing commercial and open-source desktop applications to Symbian.

Erik Jacobson, product manager at Symbian spoke on this new development: “What we hope to do with this is bring more developers to the platform and get them to do more.”

Jacobson further said: “We haven’t thought of all the ideas that are going to happen. We’re trying to allow innovation to happen. Hopefully we’ll see some interesting and new exciting applications coming out.”
