Electronics Corporation of Tamil Nadu Ltd. adopts open source applications
The Electronics Corporation of Tamil Nadu Ltd. (ELCOT) has announced that their future projects would be deployed on open-source software. They are also going to take up Linux in a big way.
ELCOT is a government owned organization which provides IT solutions to the Tamil Nadu government.
They are moving to open source platform considering it ends up being cheaper to using proprietary software from companies like Microsoft. C. Umashankar, managing director of ELCOT further said that open source software provide better ease of operation and higher security.
The organization would now migrate from the Windows platform at the server and desktop levels to the Linux based solutions.
It’s not that they did not try negotiating with the Microsoft Corp. to provide them with cheaper software solutions. They wanted the company to deliver Windows XP Home Edition at around INR 500 but the software giant apparently refused to cooperate.
Tamil Nadu is not alone; neighboring state Kerala has already announced their decision to promote free and open-source software in education.

for the highest we can imagine for the Tamil world
in view of:-
Why has the Tamil world not produced a single quantum invention in over 1000 years, when before that it together with other Indians and China was responsible for nearly all of them?
What might the root reason be?
{Quantum Invention = a significant leap in order of problem-solving from caveman days to now eg taming of fire, domestication of rice, wheel, urban social systems, discovery of language, paper, printing press, cars, planes, electricity, computers}
Why this question? It will enable us to tackle the root, the adi-vaeru, instead of us wasting time treating the symptoms of the “disease”.
