Mozilla updates Firefox, Thunderbird and SeaMonkey
Open Source developers Mozilla have released security updates to their primary software offerings namely Firefox, Thunderbird and SeaMonkey.
They have released updates for the versions 1.5.x and 2.0.x of the Firefox Web browser in addition to updates to their email client Thunderbird.
Mozilla has labeled these updates critical. Security agency Secunia has an even more sensitive rating for these updates.
Interestingly, Mozilla is continuing to support the users of Firefox 1.5.x editions despite launching version 2 recently. They are planning to phase out support for older versions of Firefox in the second quarter of 2007.
Mozilla added about these patch releases: “As part of the Firefox 2.0.0.1 and 1.5.0.9 update releases we fixed several bugs to improve the stability of the product. Some of these were crashes that showed evidence of memory corruption and we presume that at least some of these could be exploited to run arbitrary code with enough effort.”
