QuickTime bug affect both Windows and Mac platforms

Finnish security company F-Secure has warned in a statement that the recently discovered Apple QuickTime flaw affects both Windows and Mac platforms.

This bug was used by hackers to exploit MySpace.com user accounts. The social networking service had to shut down hundreds of user profiles which were affected by this flaw.

S.G. Masood, F-Secure’s phishing analyst spoke about this problem: “Any malicious JavaScript code exploiting it would affect the users of both operating systems.”

Experts had earlier said that the problem existed only on the Windows platform.

Masood further wrote on the company’s blog: “With no fix available, the only feasible workaround for these social networking sites, and also other Web sites, is to completely block users from uploading Apple QuickTime content. This is not a MySpace only issue. [It] affects every other Web site that allows the embedding of QuickTime content.”
