Jim Allchin admits that Vista would need antivirus protection
Jim Allchin, Microsoft’s co-president of Platforms and Services made news recently when he said in a statement that his seven-year-old son doesn’t have antivirus software on his system running Vista operating system.
This led to media reports saying that Allchin is claiming that Vista is so secure that it won’t need any kind of antivirus protection.
However, Jim Allchin has now clarified that most users of this upcoming Windows operating system would need some form of antivirus protection. He said: “I want to be clear, most users will use some form of antivirus software, and that will be appropriate for their scenarios. In fact, Windows Security Center, a great feature in Windows Vista, specifically encourages the use of antivirus software.”
He added that he was referring to the fact that Vista can be made secure by implementing proper restrictions for novice users. The system used by his son has parental controls in place restricting access to email or instant messaging.
