Sun Microsystems working on making Java available as an open source software product
Networking giants Sun Microsystems has said that they are beginning work on making their Java available as an open source software project.
This would technically represent one of the largest donations of software code of its kind to the open source community by a commercial software company.
It also means that Sun is changing its policies to favor Open Source community by delivering the code which power millions of mobile products available in the market today.
Sun Microsystems said in a statement that it would be making all of Java’s source code under the GNU General Public License.
This would however exclude small pockets of code that aren’t owned by them.
Making the source of Java open source would help the company gain massive contribution from developers worldwide who can scrutinize the code adding features and removing bugs from it.
