Microsoft begins delivery of Internet Explorer 7 through Windows Update

Microsoft has confirmed that they have finally begun the shipment of Internet Explorer 7 web browser through their Windows Update mechanism.

This update is being delivered slowly and slowly to the English language version users of Windows XP SP2 operating system.

Gary Schare, a director of product management with the IE team said in a statement on this development: “On Wednesday of this week, we began a very slow distribution through automatic updates, throttled way down so a very few users would see it.”

They are delivering this update at a rate of 1 million PCs per day and they expect to cover all the computers in the program within a period of three months.

Schare added: “We’d like to get the software out to as many people as quickly as possible, because we think there’s a lot of security value.”

Microsoft has proven itself to be the epitome of arrogance by jamming IE7 down users throats. Most home desktop users blindly accept updates from Microsoft and all of a sudden are caught off guard when their browser looks TOTALLY different. The new interface is significantly different and is VERY difficult to rearrange to look like the familiar interface that most users are comfortable with and WANT to see. I now have customers BEGGING me to remove IE7 so they can get back to looking at their stuff the way they WANT to.
Why couldn’t MS offer 7 with a “classic” inteface/skin, so users could migrate to the new environment when they had time, and not be in a panic situation trying to pay their bills online in a new interface that they don’t recognize????

No kidding. I spent two full days this week getting rid of ie 7 from client’s computers. I’ve also had tons of complaints that users are having difficulty with forms (especially those with some kind of wysiwyg editor). Leave it to Microsoft to do something so stupid. IE 7 had been in beta for a while…where the beta testers retarded?
